Philanthropy News Digest recently sat down with Arts & Business Council of New York Executive Director Will Maitland Weiss to discuss what the funding climate is like right now for arts organizations and how social media has the potential to increase individual giving for the arts.
He said we need a sustained period of good news to change the mindset. And we can use social media to transform the human experience, get people’s attention for your art and arts organization, which makes him optimistic.
He thinks that there’s too much duplication of effort and nonprofits with the same mission not collaborating and merging. He said, “Think what you can offer that’s different from what other people can offer.”
