Organizations who are doing good work in the world often unintentionally reflect the conditions they seek to change in the external world back into their own organizational culture.

A recent example is a leader of a trauma research organization who was recently accused of abusive (and traumatizing) behavior toward staff. We do the same thing as we move toward equity and inclusion – often inadvertently recreating oppressive systems within our own organizations.

Being aware and creating safeguards against Mission Mirroring is critical as we become more equitable, humane places of work.
